At first glance, Mr Porter Tutoring looks like many other tutoring organisations. We teach English, Maths, GCSEs, 11+ preparation, Functional Skills and provide specialist support for learners with dyslexia and additional educational needs.

But what makes us different isn't what we teach.

It's how we teach.

Over many years of working with hundreds of children, I've realised that academic ability is rarely the biggest obstacle to success.

More often than not, it's confidence.

Children don't usually arrive saying:

"I want to improve my fractions."

They arrive believing:

"I'm no good at maths."

"I'm not clever enough."

"I hate reading."

"Everyone else is better than me."

Those beliefs become barriers far greater than any curriculum content.

The Mr Porter Method was created to change those beliefs.

It starts with one simple question

Every lesson we teach is guided by a single question:

"Will this child leave today feeling more confident than when they arrived?"

If the answer is yes, we've achieved something meaningful.

Confidence doesn't replace academic progress.

It creates the conditions that make academic progress possible.

When children feel safe to ask questions, willing to make mistakes and confident enough to persevere, learning accelerates naturally.

Confidence before attainment

Traditional education often measures success by grades alone.

At Mr Porter Tutoring, we believe grades are important—but they are not the whole story.

Before we see improved exam results, we often see something much more powerful.

Children begin to smile more during lessons.

They volunteer answers.

They ask questions.

They read aloud without fear.

They tackle difficult problems instead of avoiding them.

These are what we call The Confidence Indicators.

This is especially important when working with children with dyslexia, anxiety or additional learning needs.
